This drawing depicts Bob Cratchit during the Cratchit family’s Christmas dinner, raising his glass to toast Ebenezer Scrooge, whom he ironically calls “the Founder of the Feast”. The scene belongs to Stave Three of A Christmas Carol, during the visit of the Ghost of Christmas Present, when Ebenezer Scrooge observes the family’s celebration and discovers the generosity, affection and unity of the Cratchits despite their poverty. The toast provokes Mrs Cratchit’s indignation, in one of the most characteristic moments of the Cratchit family’s Christmas celebration.

This original charcoal drawing is part of the illustrated edition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a project that began after Mario Jodra was awarded the 5th Edelvives International Illustration Prize. Following this recognition, Edelvives commissioned him to create the illustrations for its new edition of the book, published in 2025 with a translation by Alejandro Tobar. The edition offers a new visual, expressive and socially engaged interpretation of Dickens’s characters and settings, with particular attention to social contrasts and Ebenezer Scrooge’s inner transformation. Original artwork, signed by hand, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and available directly from the artist’s studio.
