A Christmas Carol by Dickens: Charcoal drawing — Carriages in the London Fog by Mario Jodra, from the illustrated edition of Edelvives. Dated and signed by hand.
This drawing depicts a London street on a cold and foggy Christmas Eve, with carts and carriages moving through the mist. The scene belongs to Stave One of A Christmas Carol, in the same passage in which Dickens describes the fog and darkness growing increasingly dense, until even the ancient tower of a church disappears from view. The atmosphere of cold, fog, lights and movement evokes the streets of Victorian London at Christmas.
This original charcoal drawing is part of the illustrated edition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a project that began after Mario Jodra was awarded the 5th Edelvives International Illustration Prize. Following this recognition, Edelvives commissioned him to create the illustrations for its new edition of the book, published in 2025 with a translation by Alejandro Tobar. The edition offers a new visual, expressive and socially engaged interpretation of Dickens’s characters and settings, with particular attention to social contrasts and Ebenezer Scrooge’s inner transformation. Original artwork, signed by hand, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and available directly from the artist’s studio.
