This drawing depicts Ebenezer Scrooge standing before the cemetery gates, led by the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come to the place where he will discover his own grave. The scene belongs to Stave Four of A Christmas Carol and represents one of the decisive moments of the story, as Ebenezer Scrooge confronts the death the Ghost has shown him and realizes that the grave is his own. Faced with the prospect of a lonely and loveless life, Scrooge begins to understand the consequences of his actions and begs for a chance to change his fate.

This original charcoal drawing is part of the illustrated edition of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a project that began after Mario Jodra was awarded the 5th Edelvives International Illustration Prize. Following this recognition, Edelvives commissioned him to create the illustrations for its new edition of the book, published in 2025 with a translation by Alejandro Tobar. The edition offers a new visual, expressive and socially engaged interpretation of Dickens’s characters and settings, with particular attention to social contrasts and Ebenezer Scrooge’s inner transformation. Original artwork, signed by hand, accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity and available directly from the artist’s studio.
